Don Bourne and
Wynella

So few boats on the river personify the love and care that was lavished on her as she won races all over the river for decades and carried Don and Nancy with their children and grandchildren over to Rottnest each summer so that they could enjoy their annual break.

As you will note from the images below, Don built her at home and she was taken down to the river at near Royal Perth Yacht Club and dropped in near the Catalina's launching ramps that now are worked into the Royal Perth Yacht clubs facilities.

Don was reputed to have built Wynella during a building materials scarcity and tongue and groove floor boards were used to "plank" her, however it could be that this was just too good a story to leave alone. If you review the images shown you will no doubt make your own mind up.

A quick note to the images below. My great thanks to Nancy Bourne who very kindly passed these photo's on to John and Fay Wright who are currently working on a history of the H28 on the Swan and from whom I have drawn most of this material. John and Fay have sailed Anna for the last 20 years and John has campaigned succesfully each Saturday during the sailing season.

All of these images were taken from photographs and in some cases photocopies of photos. Therefore the quality is not as good as could be desired. However they form a consistent story

A home movie from the Bournes

Nancy and Don had a rare item in those days. A movie camera. And with it they recorded some of what was happening around them.
The pictures tell their own story and give a glimpse into what it was like to live in the 50's and 60's. My thanks to Nancy Bourne for her permission to put this on the website. By the way, in order to protect copyright, please play this with the sound right down.
