So what are we doing about it?
The H28 Fleet of SoPYC holds a Wooden Boat regatta and rally on the 2nd week of January (traditionally the 1st sailing day back after the Christmas / New Year break). It follows a simple formula: Gathering on the quarterdeck prior to racing for lunch and a chat about the old times. A move around to Archies Bar for the briefing prior to the race. Everyone moves to their yachts for a box start with traditionally 3 divisions kicking off. There are the smaller gaffers, who are given a shorter course to sail. We then have the H28's and the Couta's with some of the other boats of a similar size joining us.The third fleet is the big boats, if the numbers are good enough to form a seperate fleet.
After the race, timed to finish around 4 pm, sailors are invited back to Archies Bar for drinks and nibbles alongside the results that will be announced at a suitable time. Hot food is served from the bbq and the bar remains open till the last guests have toddled off.
As we invite the power section along on the rally, we often have some grand wooden power boats out with us as well and several have acted as spectator crafts for us in the past and we look forward to having them again.
We will always welcome new boats and you may enter by contacting the club and getting the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions when they are available from the sailing office at SoPYC. [email protected] Otherwise feel free to use the contact page on the website. Entries via the contact page will be redirected to SoPYC and all dealings and payments will be with sailing admin at SoPYC.
There will also be a formal evening and we are fortunate to have a notable person to act as our embassador for the H28 fleet who will speak on the night . More information to come later.
